This year as well, the Republic of Moldova is taking part in one of the most important international exhibitions dedicated to the horticultural sector, Fruit Attraction 2025, held in Madrid, Spain, from September 30 to October 2.

“Agriculture was not on my list of priorities when I went to study, but later I realized that I could combine things beautifully within our family business. Today, I manage to keep the documentation side under control while also actively promoting the work we do,” says Lidia Ionaș.

Ion Ionaș, the manager of Ionex Trans from Costești, Ialoveni district, runs a family business founded by his parent in 1995. With the support of the USAID High Value Agriculture in Moldova project, the Ionaș family has implemented the latest technologies and standards within the company, enabling it to expand its fruit and grape sales internationally. As a result, Ionex Trans has become an important player in the fruit and grape market, supplying markets in the European Union and maintaining a diversified client portfolio. Through investments in infrastructure, storage facilities, and sorting lines, the company is able to meet the requirements of major retail chains such as Lidl and Edeka, while focusing on the development of market-adapted packaging.

In recent years, agriculture in our country has been increasingly affected by climate change. In order to minimize crop damage as much as possible and maintain high-quality yields, more and more producers are turning to modern technologies.

Through investments in infrastructure, storage facilities, and sorting lines, Ion Ionaș meets the requirements of major retail chains such as Lidl and Edeka and focuses on developing market-tailored packaging solutions.

Founded in 2001, the company Ionex Trans SRL from Costești, Ialoveni district, demonstrates performance and professionalism in the fruit industry, exporting its production almost exclusively to the European Union, according to Ion Ionaș.

Despite a very complicated season, in which much of the fruits have been affected due to bad phenomena such as late spring frost, hail and drought, the local producers continue to conquer the EU consumers.

Fruit producers in Moldova have invested heavily in table grape cultivation in recent years. One exporter says they have achieved their first harvest using the Pergola support system, which allows them to supply more than 1,000 tonnes per season.

Efforts to promote online fruit producers in Moldova, due to pandemic travel restrictions, and adjusting the technological processes of production and international certification of apricots this year allowed for the first time the export of Moldovan apricots to several countries of the European Union.

More than 20 internationally certified agricultural producers are active in the Republic of Moldova, allowing them to sell their goods on specialized international purchasing platforms. More recently, starting this year, the USAID project helped two agricultural producers to obtain, for the first time in the Republic of Moldova, Global G.A.P GRASP certificates, confirming the social responsibility of agricultural households.

The company Ionex Transa domestic fruit producer from Costesti, Ialoveni, was among the first economic operators in the country, which managed to implement the GlobalG.A.P. and GRASP safety and quality standards.
